The deadline for activating Dutch-Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong's buyout clause with Bayer Leverkusen has been extended beyond the initially assumed mid-June date.

According to a recent report by Bild, interested clubs now have until the week following the European Championship final, scheduled for July 14, to meet the estimated €40 million buyout clause.

This new development is a result of a condition set during Frimpong's contract extension last fall, which ties him to the club until 2028. If the extended deadline passes without any club triggering the clause, Bayer Leverkusen will regain the freedom to negotiate the transfer fee for the highly-rated defender.

Currently, Frimpong's market value is estimated at €50 million by Transfermarkt. The 23-year-old right-back, who is set to represent the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-final against England on Wednesday, is reportedly dreaming of a move to a top club such as Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, or Arsenal.

Bild further suggests that Frimpong is open to a potential move this summer, making this extended deadline all the more significant for both the player and any interested clubs.
