Ex-Kotoko skipper Amos Frimpong backs club for Africa
Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko captain, Amos Frimpong has thrown his weight behind the porcupine warriors to participate in the upcoming CAF inter clubs competitions.
The two times African champions has been selected to represent the country in the 2020/2021 CAF Champions league following the truncation of the season due to coronavirus pandemic.
However, a chunk of Ghanaians have questioned Asante Kotoko capabilities of making a meaningful impact in Africa.
Speaking to Kumasi based Hello FM, Amos Frimpong said, “Such decisions are normally taken by the board of directors, management and technical term. Using coach CK Akonnor’s era where we were not active, the management took a bold decision for us to represent Ghana. We even exceeded our target by qualifying for the group stage,”
He continued: “We seem to have the same situation at the moment so if the leadership assesses the strength of the team and decide to play in Africa, I think it is in the right direction,”
He underpinned the value of participating in CAF interclub competitions.
“When we play in Africa, it raises the value of the players where some even get better offers for the club to earn something.”
“So if the board decides to allow the team to take the opportunity, it is good,” he ended.
Amos Frimpong currently ply his trade for Guinean outfit, AS Kaloum Stars.
