English-born Ghanaian defender Kelvin Abrefa has committed his future to Reading FC by signing a new two-year contract.
The 20-year-old, who returned to Bearwood for pre-season training, will now remain a Royal until the summer of 2026.
Abrefa's journey with Reading began in 2017 when he joined the club's under-12 team. This new deal extends his association with the club to an impressive nine years. Head of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, expressed his excitement about the signing: "We’re delighted to secure Kelvin to a new two-year contract. There was, understandably, plenty of external interest in him so we’re very happy that Kelvin's chosen to continue his development as a Reading Player."
The 2023-24 season saw Abrefa balancing regular U21 football with significant contributions to the first team. He played in the Carabao Cup and was part of Reading's historic 9-0 victory over Exeter in September. Additionally, he stepped up to start in crucial league matches, displaying his versatility and importance to the team.
