Hearts of Oak Football Club has moved to clarify that the recent dissolution of their board is unrelated to a demonstration staged by some of the club’s fans a few weeks ago.

Following expressions of discontent among fans regarding the club’s current performance on the pitch, Hearts of Oak deemed it necessary to address concerns and dispel any misconceptions.

The decision to dissolve the eleven-member board, which included prominent figures such as Togbe Afede XIV, Frank Nelson, and Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamaloe, was taken on February 27th, 2024.

However, it is notable that Togbe Afede, the majority shareholder, has been re-appointed as Executive Chairman and will preside over the upcoming Annual General Meeting in March.

In an interview with Citi Sports, the club’s Communication Director, Kwame Opare Addo, emphasized that the board dissolution aligns with the club’s new strategic direction.

He stated, “This has got nothing to do with the public outcry. The reality is that after serving for a period of 12 years, the club feels they have done well. Hence, this is in line with the promise by the club’s majority shareholder.”

The club is scheduled to convene for an Annual General Meeting to deliberate on plans aimed at revitalizing and improving its performance.
