The versatile defender, capable of playing as a centre-back or as a right-back, could conceivably make his debut in the home game against Montpellier on 3rd February.

Alidu will be a welcome addition to an ailing Rennais side currently languishing in 10th position in Ligue 1 and seeking consistency that will drive them towards the European places.

The defender played just 18 minutes for Ghana at AFCON as the Black Stars crashed out at the group phase for the second successive tournament, drawing widespread criticism and the sacking of coach Chris Hughton.
