2023 AFCON: Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie rallies for support for Black Meteors ahead of Mozambique tie

Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has pleaded with Ghanaians to offer support to the Black Meteors ahead of their CAF U-23 Championship qualifier against Mozambique on Sunday.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his charges departed Accra for Maputo on Thursday, October 20,2022 for the crucial qualifier.

A delegation made up of 22 players, technical staff and officials left Accra on Thursday evening for the game which is scheduled for Sunday, October 23 at the Estadio Nacional do Zimpeto.

"My motivation is always to win for the country. I always want my motherland to feel proud of me," Afriyie Barnieh told ghanafa.org.

"For the team (Black Meteors) too as you said, we want to set a record as we did in U-20 and the Black Galaxies, we want to qualify again with the team so that we will say in our time we qualified the Meteors."

He added," I will like to tell all Ghanaians that they should keep praying and supporting us and we are not going to fail them. We will make them proud. We will are not going to let down, we will deliver for them."

Meanwhile, the squad has been boosted with the arrival of former U-20 AFCON winning defend Philemon Baffour who currently plays for Rio Ave in the Portuguese league.

The winner will move on to play the winner of the tie between Algeria and DR Congo.

The fourth edition of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco in June 2023.
