2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Black Stars technical team facing sack after dreadful campaign

Published on: 23 January 2024

The Ghana Football Association is expected to show the entire Black Stars technical team the exit door following the team’s poor showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The West Africa powerhouse face another early AFCON exit, depending on the result from other groups. Ghana could have sealed automatic qualification to the knockout of the tournament with a win over Mozambique.

But the Black Stars threw away a two-goal lead in dramatic circumstances as they drew with Mozambique in six minutes of additional time.

Jordan Ayew's brace were cancelled by Geny Catamo and Reinildo Mandava.

Hughton and his backroom staff took over the Black Stars in February 2023 following the resignation of Otto Addo and has been since not transformed the team.

The Black Stars have been poor under the former Premier League Manager and his assistance, Didi Dramani and George Boateng.

However, the Ghana FA are taking immediate measures to dissolve the Black Stars technical team led by Hughton.

Ghana drew two games at the Nations Cup, finishing in third place in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.
