2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Mohammed Salisu attempts to fight Ghanaian journalists in Ivory Coast

Published on: 23 January 2024

Ghana defender, Mohammed Salisu attempted to fight Ghanaian journalists in Ivory Coast on Monday night.

This comes after journalists who are covering the tournament expressed their displeasure following the team's poor performance against Mozambique.

The Black Stars after a shaky start to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) needed all three points against the Os Mambas to make it to the Round of 16 of the tournament.

However, despite taking the lead with Jordan Ayew scoring two spot-kicks in each half, the Black Stars conceded two goals in four minutes.

The results leave Ghana at the 3rd spot with just two points after opening their campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde and a 2-2 draw against Egypt.

With the journalists expressing their frustrations, the AC Monaco central defender attempted to fight journalists at the mixed zone.

The former Southampton man was prevented by security officers at the mixed zone.

The four-time AFCON winners have now suffered back-to-back exits from the tournament in the first round.

In the other Group B game, Egypt and Cape Verde played out a draw game which meant the Pharaohs finished second in the group, one point ahead of Ghana.
