2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Samuel Ashie Quaye returns from suspension ahead of Morocco showdown

Published on: 27 June 2023

Samuel  Abbey-Ashie Quaye is available for selection after serving his mandatory suspension in the Black Meteors' opening game of the 2023 TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Accra Great Olympics defender has been cleared to return to play in Ghana's second group match against Morocco and other subsequent matches.

The left-back was suspended after receiving two yellow cards in the qualification stage of the competition and missed the opening game against Congo on Sunday.

His return is a huge boost to Ibrahim Tanko's side as they take on the tournament hosts, Morocco on Tuesday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Both teams won their opening Group A matches and a win for either side could boost their chances of qualifying to the semi-finals stage.

After Tuesday's game, Ghana will travel to Tangier where they will face Guinea in the last group match on Friday, June 30.

The Black Meteors will be hoping to secure a place in the last four with a win against Morocco.

Ibrahim Tanko and his side are aiming to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games that will be hosted in Paris next year.
