Angola head coach, Pedro Gonçalves, has expressed optimism ahead of their clash with Ghana in the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The upcoming match is scheduled for September 2 later this year at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Reflecting on their past encounters with the four-time African champions, Gonçalves stressed the importance of fair play and called on the continent's football governing body to closely monitor the match.

"Both games in the last qualifiers were very balanced so I guess we have our chances this time and I hope we will have a good game in Kumasi because the last time, a lot of things happened so I hope CAF open their eyes because a lot happened and Ghana doesn’t need to be in that situation so I am hoping for a fair match and in the end, we will see who’s going to win," Gonçalves stated in an interview with Ghanasportspage.

Angola is placed in Group F alongside Niger and Sudan. The return leg against Ghana will take place on November 11 in Luanda.
