Experienced Ghana forward, Jordan Ayew scored late on Thursday night to seal a hard-fought 2-1 victory for the Black Stars over the Eagles of Mali.

The two countries locked horns today in Round 3 of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a game that both national teams started slowly, it took a while for Mali to take control to threaten the Ghana goal.

Unfortunately, the early chances created by the hosts were wasted.

Subsequently, the Black Stars also came in strongly and could have scored before the break.

However, it was Mali who scored against the run of play through Kamory Doumbia in the 45th minute to take a narrow lead into the break.

After recess, Ghana started strongly and caught the Mali Eagles off guard. Pressure from the Black Stars paid off in the 58th minute when the visitors scored to restore parity.

Midfielder Abdul Salis Samed located Ernest Nuamah with an inch-perfect cross before the talented teenager planted his header into the Mali net.

With the scoreline square, both and Mali opened up the play in a bid to find the second goal to secure all three points.

At the depth of the match, the Black Stars applied pressure and managed to score through Jordan Ayew to secure a dramatic victory away from home.

Up next for Ghana, the Black Stars will host Central African Republic on Monday, June 10.
