The Black Stars of Ghana may face the prospect of relocating their home fixture against the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers to another country, Kumasi-based Kessben FM has reported.

Allegedly, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, traditionally the stronghold for Ghana's national team, fails to meet the stringent standards set by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) for hosting certain categories of matches, including crucial World Cup qualifiers.

Recent inspections conducted by officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have unearthed numerous shortcomings at the stadium, rendering it unsuitable for hosting the upcoming game.

This situation evokes memories of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers when CAF nearly vetoed the Baba Yara Stadium as the venue for Ghana's playoff match against Nigeria. It was only through eleventh-hour efforts and last-minute preparations that FIFA and CAF granted conditional approval for the match to proceed at the stadium.

The upcoming clash against CAR is slated for June 10, following Ghana's encounter with Mali in Bamako on June 3.

Ghana currently occupies the fourth spot in Group I of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with Comoros, Madagascar, and Mali leading the standings in the first, second, and third positions, respectively.
