The Ghana U23 team put up a strong performance on Friday night in the clash against the Algeria U23 team.

The side nicknamed the Black Meteors today locked horns with their North African counterpart in the first leg of the final qualification round to the CAF U23 AFCON.

Following an impressive showing from the two sides in the first half, it was difficult to separate them.

On the back of a goalless first half, Ghana and Algeria resumed from the break determined to fight for the win by scoring.

A first penalty kick was awarded to the hosts in the 78th minute but Ghana goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim stayed alert and pulled off a fantastic save to keep the game level.

Five minutes later, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku pulled a rabbit out of a hat when he scored with a powerful strike from the centre circle that beat the Algeria goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, the Black Meteors gave away a penalty kick in injury time that was this time around converted to restore parity for the hosts.

Eventually, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Ghana and Algeria will have it all to play for next week in the reverse fixture.
