Ghanaian midfielder Abu Francis was sent off during Cercle Brugge's Europa League Qualification Round 3 second leg against Molde FK on Thursday evening.

Despite the early dismissal, Cercle Brugge displayed resilience but ultimately bowed out following a 1-0 (1-3 aggregate) loss at the Jan Breydelstadion.

Francis, who started alongside compatriot Lawrence Agyekum, received a red card after a VAR review just half an hour into the game. Undeterred, Cercle Brugge pushed forward and found the net just before halftime through Abdoul Ouattara, who capitalized on a rebound from a corner kick.

Molde, leading 3-0 from the first leg, had opportunities to extend their lead but were denied by Cercle Brugge's goalkeeper Delanghe. The match ended 1-0, a commendable result for Cercle Brugge given the circumstances, but insufficient to advance in the competition.

Cercle Brugge will now shift focus to their upcoming league fixture against OH Leuven on August 18th.
