Alexander Djiku makes Conference League Team of the Week despite Fenerbahce’s exit

Ghana defender Alexander Djiku was named in the Sofascore UEFA Europa Conference League Team of the Week despite his team getting knocked out of the competition by Greek side Olympiacos.

Fenerbahce won the game on the night 1-0 but that was not enough as the quarterfinal tie ended 3-3 on aggregate.

The Greek giants could not hold their nerves in the ensuing penalty shootout and ultimately losing 3-2 on penalties in Istanbul.

Despite his team’s inability to progress to the last four of the competition, Alexander Djiku was immense for Fenerbahce.

The Black Stars defender won the most duels in the clash, winning an astonishing 13 in 120 minutes of football.

Irfan Kahveci scored the only goal of the game from a Sebastian Szymanski assist after only 11 minutes into the game.

The game had to travel to extra time as the 1-0 means the tie was now level 3-3 on aggregate before Olympicos won the penalty shootout.
