Amateur players will take over Ghana Premier League because of poor salaries – Richard Osei Agyemang

Former Ashantigold defender Richard Osei Agyemang has added his voice to the mass departure of players from the Ghana Premier League.

Ghana is considered as one of the highest exporter of footballers in Africa, giving credence to players moving out for greener pastures due to low wages.

Speaking to Kessben FM, as followed by Footballghana.com, the former Asante Kotoko defender predicted amateur player will in the coming days take over the Ghana Premier League since clubs are not ready to offer better salaries to the quality players in the league.

In addition, Osei Agyemang affirmed there is no player in the Ghana Premier League who is financially secured.

“There is no local player who is rich. There is no one, I tell you. I dare anyone to come out. If players earn good money they will stay in the league. Salaries given to players in the local scene are nothing to write home about. If a local player earns GHC10,000, I don’t think that player will move outside. We have to fight for the boys so they can also get something. Very soon, we will see amateur players playing in the league” he said.

Since departing Ghana for greener pastures in 2023, the 29-year-old defender has had stints with Real Kashmir in India and Nepal outfit Dhangadhi.
