Andre Ayew solicits support for young Black Stars players
Andre Ayew has called on Ghanaians to support the young players currently in the Black Stars squad.
Speaking at a sports psychology lecture at the University of Ghana, Ayew discussed the challenges these young athletes face, particularly those who started their careers abroad.
"We have a young squad who are now understanding what it means to play for the team," Ayew stated. "They started playing abroad at a young age, unlike the older generation who came through the local league. They tend to cope more with what they're experiencing abroad. So, coming back to Ghana to readapt to our culture and values is not easy."
Ayew emphasized the importance of strong support from Ghanaians in helping these young players fully appreciate the significance of representing their country.
"Psychologically, everybody needs to understand what Ghana means, what Ghana football means to the people," he explained. "The young ones need more support to focus on what playing for the country means."
Ayew is optimistic that with strong performances from the young players, the perceived lack of passion within the team will be resolved.
Ghana will return to action in September for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. They will face Angola on September 2 and Niger on September 10.
