Former Ghana skipper, Asamoah Gyan has praised Andre Ayew's leadership as captain of the senior national team, the Black Stars.

The Le Harve attacker was named as skipper for the team in 2019 under the then-head coach, Kwesi Appiah.

With Gyan actively playing at the time, the decision triggered criticism in the media.

Despite Ayew failing to lead the team to progress in major tournaments, Gyan, who shared the dressing with the former Swansea City and West Ham beleives Ayew is a great leader and has done well so far as the captain of the team.

"Andre is a good leader. I have played with him and been with him at Black Stars camp," he said on Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com.

"With some of the things he does for the team, he has been good so far.

"It is a different era but it has been good so far," he added.

Under Andre Ayew as skipper for the team, the Black Stars exited at the last 16 at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt before exiting at the group phase of the last two editions of the AFCON in Cameroon and Ivory Coast in 2021 and 2023.

At the World Cup in Qatar, the Black Stars exited at the group stage.
