Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko have commenced discussions to extend the contract of their midfielder, Mohammed Sherrif, who has only a few months left on his current deal.

Sherrif, a 22-year-old defensive midfielder, expressed his willingness to continue his journey with the Porcupines. He joined Asante Kotoko from the lower-tier club, Steadfast Academy, in 2021 and has since become an integral part of the team.

However, the box-box midfielder's season was cut short when he was involved in a motor accident in Tamale, causing him to miss most of the second round of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season. Despite this setback, Sherrif managed to play 16 games for Kotoko, scoring twice and providing one assist before his unfortunate accident.

In total, Sherrif has made 61 appearances in the league for Kotoko, scoring twice and providing four assists. His contributions have been valuable, and the club is keen to retain his services as they prepare for the 2024/25 season.

After a challenging season that saw the Porcupine Warriors finish in sixth place without any silverware, the club is now focusing on restructuring their squad. So far, they have parted ways with eighteen players, with two more expected to leave. Some players will likely be loaned out, while others, like Sherrif, are in line for new contracts.
