Black Starlets batter Burkina Faso in 1st leg of African U-17 Championship qualifiers

Ghana’s national under 17 men’s football team the Black Starlets thrashed their counterparts from Burkina Faso 5-1 in the first leg of the penultimate round qualifier of the African U-17 Championship at the new Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.

The starlets came from behind to score five after the young Stallions stunned Ghana with an early first half goal. However, after constant pressure Emmanuel Opoku leveled with a neat strike while Eric Ayiah slotted home later on to give Ghana a first half lead.

Paa Kwesi Fabian’s side come back stronger from the break and was rewarded for their efforts as Eric Ayiah doubled his tally by fetching the third goal. Isaac Antah capitalized on a defensive blunder to make it 4-1 for the Black Starlets. Nathaniel Opoku culminated the day with a fine finish in the dying embers of the game to make it 5-1 for Ghana. The Black Starlets will travel to Burkina Faso in a fortnight for the second leg tie.
