BREAKING: Asamoah Gyan’s name mentioned in Anas football corruption video

Published on: 07 June 2018

Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, recently expressed doubt about the Anas No. 12 football investigation, suggesting that he would be shocked if the investigation unraveled any corruption in Ghana football.

Asamoah Gyan

As the captain of the Black Stars, I’m interested in the video and will make time to watch it, if only I’m in Ghana. I will be very shocked if it comes out clear that there is corruption in our game,” Gyan said.

The remarks prompted some fans to criticise him on social media, YEN.com.gh can report.

When the video was finally premiered at the Conference Centre in Accra on Wednesday, not only was clear corruption in Ghana football established, but the names of Asamoah Gyan and his brother, Baffour, were also mentioned.

Their names were, however, not mentioned in relation to any corruption. Rather, they were said to have benefited from the connections of vice-chairman of the Player Status Committee of the Ghana Football Association, Kofi Manu, in getting invitations to re-join the Black Stars.

Manu made the remarks after he had received money from members of Anas’ investigative team, who posed as player agents, to help a Ghanaian player get a call-up to the national team.

He said when the Gyans were struggling to earn call-ups to the national team after a disagreement with the team managers, their father reached out to him and he (Manu) helped to get them recalled into the team.

Over 100 Ghanaian football personalities have been implicated in the corruption scandal.

The GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, was caught on camera scheming to slice up to 25% of a Ghana Premier League deal that was offered by members of Anas’ investigative team, who posed as investors.

This was in clear contravention of GFA rules which stated clearly that officials of the organisation must not be paid commission for any deal executed for the organisation.

GFA spokesman, Sanni Daara, was also caught on camera, directing undercover investigators to give GHc4000 to his aide as “appreciation” for recommending a Hearts of Oak player for invitation to the national team.

The explosive scandal has stunned the country and has sparked calls for Nyanatkyi and his aides to step down.
