The host nation started the match with a sense of control, but it was short-lived as Burkina Faso quickly found their footing and challenged Ghana for every ball. The Burkinabe team's strategy of utilizing long balls in the first half proved to be effective.
A costly mistake by Ghanaian goalkeeper Emmanuel Armah in the 12th minute allowed Tapsoba to seize the lead for Burkina Faso. Despite the setback, Ghana persevered and managed to equalize through Joseph Narbi, who skillfully curled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
