CAF CL: Etoile Du Sahel 3-0 Kotoko – Porcupine Warriors fail Etoile test as they miss out on qualification to group stage

Kumasi Asante Kotoko has failed to secure qualification to the CAF Champions League after suffering 3-0 defeat to Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the play-off round in Monastir on Sunday afternoon.

The Ghana Premier League giants won the first leg of the tie 2-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium a fortnight ago.

That win gave the side an advantage going into the return leg today but they, unfortunately, could not make use of it.

At the end of a pulsating game in Tunisia, the North African club did the needful and emphatically recorded a 3-0 victory to ensure they won 3-2 on aggregate whiles securing a spot in the group stage of the competition in the process.

A first-half penalty goal, as well as a brace from Karim Laribi, were enough to overturn the Porcupine Warriors’ result from the first leg.

Despite crashing out of the CAF Champions League, all is not lost for Kotoko in their quest for glory on the African continent.

They will play a playoff game later in October for a chance to earn qualification to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup.
