Dreams FC coach, Abdul Karim Zito has pinpointed a lack of experience as the reason behind his team's departure from the CAF Confederation Cup at the semi-final stage.

The FA Cup champions faced a disheartening 3-0 defeat against Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek in the second leg of the semi-final, held at their home ground.

Despite a goalless draw in the first leg, Dreams FC couldn't hold off Zamalek's onslaught, leading to their elimination from the tournament.

Zito expressed his assessment in the aftermath of the match, emphasizing the crucial role of experience in such high-stakes encounters.

"It's lack of experience. The boys only gave up after the third goal. I can do everything but if the players are not mentally stable, there is nothing you can do. Antwi was doubtful but we forced him to play."

Dreams FC earned their spot in the competition by clinching the FA Cup title last year. In their debut campaign, they topped Group C with twelve points before ousting Stade Malien in the quarter-finals.

However, their hopes were dashed early in Sunday's showdown as Zamalek netted two goals within the first twenty-eight minutes, seizing control of the tie.

Zamalek sealed the deal with a third goal just thirteen minutes into the second half at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Reflecting on the performance, Zito dismissed the notion of stage fright but acknowledged his team's unexpected predicament.

"It’s not stage fright; if that was the case, it would have affected us in Cairo. My boys never thought we could get into this situation. In Cairo, the atmosphere was bigger than today."

With their continental journey halted, Dreams FC will now shift their focus to Wednesday's pending quarter-final clash against Soccer Intellectuals in the FA Cup.
