The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has through a letter to its member associations including Ghana, made recommendations on what needs to be done for football league seasons to safely return.

The various football seasons on the continent have been on suspension for the past 3 months as a result of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which has struck the world.

In the midst of the deadly disease which looks to have come to stay, all the various countries on the continent are discussing the return of the sports - either continue the current season or make plans for the next season-.

With Ghana facing a dilemma over the fate of the 2019/2020 football season, they continue to be in consultation with the government to have the ban on the sport removed.

In a 27-page document from CAF to Member Associations, it has made key recommendations on the way forward for football to resume.

The continent’s football governing body wants football to return but also wants it to do so in an environment where Players, Officials, Fans, Partners, and all other stakeholders will be protected.

“This comprehensive document is major step towards resuming football on the continent. Based on recent developments, it is important we have a plan in place to guide our stakeholders on the return of continental and domestic competitions, and the need for an all hands on deck approach.

“Many considerations were factored into the putting together of the document by our team of experts notably the specificities of the continent. Together with strategies established by local authorities, it provides the MA’s with adequate information to resume operations upon receiving the green light”, CAF Acting General Secretary Abdelmounaim Bah has said.

The recommendations have been put together by CAF following several meetings between its Medical Committee, the Technical & Development Department, and a team of experts.

Meanwhile, a CAF Executive Committee Meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2020. The meeting will be held via video-conference and key decisions will be announced by the body afterward.
