Chelsea condemn online racist abuse of James

Chelsea have condemned the online racist abuse directed towards attacker Lauren James.

James, 22, was subject to the abuse after Chelsea's 4-1 defeat by Arsenal in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

In a statement, the west London club said they "stand strongly against any form of abuse and discriminatory behaviour".

"Discrimination has no place at Chelsea Football Club or in any of our communities," they added.

"We will take action against any individual that we can identify. We stand with you, Lauren."

James was also the target of online abuse in 2021 when playing for Manchester United.

One of England's standout players during the 2023 World Cup, she been capped 20 times for the Lionesses.

In a statement, England said: "We stand alongside you LJ. Online abuse and discriminatory behaviour has no place in football. This abhorrent behaviour must have consequences."
