Databank Ghana Chief Executive Officer, Kojo Addae Mensah, has responded to concerns raised by the Executive Chairman of McDan Group of Companies, Dr. Daniel McKorley (McDan), about betting and match-fixing in the Ghana Premier League.

McDan, who previously sponsored Great Olympics, had expressed reservations about sponsoring the league due to these issues.

Mensah acknowledged the problem, stating, "We don't have clear evidence, but there's no smoke without fire." He emphasized the need for deterrent measures to prevent players and club administrators from engaging in betting activities. "Betting cannot be prevented, but we should have laws and frameworks to make those involved think twice," he told Asempa Sports.

Mensah warned that without strict measures, the game could collapse, citing examples from the cricket world where players have been caught in betting scandals. He stressed that while betting is a significant industry globally, it is crucial to regulate it effectively to protect the integrity of the sport.

The Databank CEO's comments come as a call to action for the Ghana Football Association and other stakeholders to address the issue and safeguard the future of the Ghana Premier League.
