Former Asante Kotoko defender Osei Kwame Junior has issued a stern warning to the players ahead of their game against Samartex.

The embattled Kotoko will welcome Ghana Premier League leaders, Samartex to the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday for matchday 27 of the campaign.

Speaking to Kessben FM monitored by Footballghana.com, Osei Kwame expressed the players cannot afford to lose against the Timber giants, as he demands for maximum points.

“The players must be serious. If they think they are playing against the coach so he gets sacked, they should bear in mind that, when the coach leaves, the squad will also be overhauled a chunk of them will leave. They should just be serious and deliver for the club”

“Truth be told, the players have no excuse than to beat Samartex on Sunday. We cannot afford to lose against Samartex in Kumasi. If things were to be equal, one wouldn’t be nervous if Kotoko is playing Samartex.” He said.

“Nsoatreman FC, Accra Lions and other teams are able to beat Kotoko in Kumasi, how? Kotoko have a pedigree and has to be protected. If they don’t win against Samartex, the worse will happen. They shouldn’t be swollen headed and give us the three points on Sunday” he said.

The Porcupine Warriors has been dismal in the domestic top-flight and are currently ranked 11th in the standings with 33 points.

The Ghanaian giants has suffered six defeats in their last seven games in the Ghanaian top-flight, picking just a point across the period.

Kotoko have won only one game in 2024 following a sharp decline in form, which has seen the Kumasi-based giants drop from title contenders to survival hopefuls.

They are five places away from dropping to the relegation zone, with eight games to end the season.
