George Boateng will bring a new dimension to our team - Coventry City director
Performance Director of Coventry City, Claire-Marie Roberts believes the appointment of former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng will aid the club ahead of the new season.
The former Aston Villa youth team coach has been appointed to lead the club ahead of the 2024/25 season and will be deputized by Rhys Carr.
According to the club’s director, Boateng and his assistant will bring a new dimension as they seek to enhance the development and preparation of the first team ahead of the new season.
“George & Rhys were consistently the strongest candidates throughout our extensive selection process. Their respective skills will bring a new dimension to our experienced multi-disciplinary team as we work to continually enhance the development and preparation of our first-team players.”
The 48-year-old featured for Coventry City between 1998 and 1999, scoring seven goals in 57 games after securing a move to the club from Feyenoord.
Boateng famously netted twice as the Sky Blues won in the league against Aston Villa at Villa Park for the first time in 63 years.
He also had spells in England at Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City and Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, the Ghanaian born represented the Netherlands on four occasions.
Boateng has had coaching experience at Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa, where he was Under 18s and then Under 23s coach. From May 2022, George was then appointed assistant coach of the Ghana national team.
