Breaking News: George Afriyie’s disqualification in GFA's presidential elections upheld by CAS

Published on: 06 May 2024

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced its judgment regarding George Afriyie’s disqualification from the 2023 Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential race.

Afriyie was disqualified from contesting Kurt Okraku in the GFA presidential race in October 2023 for misinterpreting the criteria for contesting the GFA Presidency.

The former GFA Vice President's appeal against his disqualification was dismissed, and with no further internal avenues available, he sought for redress at CAS.

His disqualification paved the way for Kurt Okraku to run for the position unopposed.

After several months, CAS has ruled on the matter, upholding the Ghana FA’s Election Committee decision to disqualify George Afriyie.

Afriyie took to his social media handle to confirm the ruling by CAS.

“I have today received the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) regarding my appeal against the Decision of the Elections of the Ghana Football Association”

“The CAS, in their decision have upheld the decision of the Election Committee of the GFA”

“I take the decision in good faith. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me during this period” he wrote on social media.

With the CAS ruling, the matter, which began in September 2023, has finally reached its conclusion.
