Ghana Football Association (GFA), through its GFA Foundation, will present football equipment and logistics to the Sunyani Male and Female Prisons on Monday, 1st July 2024.

This initiative is part of the GFA Foundation-Ghana Prisons Project, aimed at leveraging the power of football to enhance the well-being, reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates into society.

Sunyani’s prisons will be the second beneficiaries of this project, receiving items such as jerseys, footballs, goalkeeper gloves, football hoses, whistles, caution cards, and movable goalposts. These donations follow the project's launch at the Senior Correctional Centre, also known as Borstal Home, in Roman Ridge, Accra.

The Football for Development project will also provide coaching, refereeing, and mentorship training for inmates and prison officers. Additionally, the Foundation will conduct advocacy workshops to educate the public on the negative impacts of discrimination and stigmatization against prisoners.

“We will use the opportunity to assess the requisite training facilities for the upcoming coaching, refereeing, and mentorship programs scheduled for later this year,” stated Mr. Malcolm Frazier Appeadu, Director of the GFA Foundation.

The GFA Foundation-Ghana Prisons Project, launched on 24th May 2024 by GFA President Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, seeks to use football as a tool for positive behavioral and social change.
