Ghana’s Majeed Ashimeru helps Anderlecht beat Royal Antwerp in Championship playoff win on injury return

Ghana international Majeed Ashimeru has returned from injury after featuring for Anderlecht in their Championship playoff win over Royal Antwerp.

Ashimeru has been sidelined since January 2024 after picking up an injury at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The former WAFA midfielder sustained an injury in the Black Stars final group game against Mozambique and has since not played a competitive game.

But Ashimeru made a substitute appearance at the weekend to help his side secure an all-important victory over their opponent.

The midfielder entered the pitch during injury time as he finally returns from injury.

Killian Sardella's goal in the 52nd minute secured a comfortable lead for Anderlecht as they strive for the Belgian Pro League title this season.

Ashimeru's comeback is a significant boost for both his club and country, with his dynamic midfield presence expected to bolster Anderlecht's title aspirations and Ghana's squad ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali in June.
