Former Black Stars goalkeeper George Owu has implored Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Obuasi Ashanti Gold to ensure they win their respective first leg matches in CAF’s inter-club competition.

The two clubs are representing Ghana in Africa this season and will start off their campaign this weekend by playing as guests to their opponent.

Kotoko who will be competing in the CAF Champions League has been paired against Nigerian side Kano Pillars whiles Ashgold is to do battle in the preliminary stage of the Confederations Cup against Equatorial Guinea club Akonangui club.

Speaking in relation to the upcoming match, George Owu has stressed on the need for the Porcupine Warriors and the Miners to pick up maximum points whiles insisting that first legs are very key when it comes to double-legged encounters.

“I will urge both Kotoko and Ashgold players to be determined in the first leg games because progressing to the next stage of the competition depends on the first leg”, Owu said in an interview with Ashh FM.

He also urged the supporters not to put too much pressure on the teams as they participate in Africa.

“Supporters should not put much pressure on the teams going to Africa because lack of playing league games in the Country might affect the players.

On officiating, he said, “Every referee is careful when officiating Ghanaian games so they shouldn't rely much on the referees and play their normal game”.

Owu tipped Kotoko to go far in the competition due to the experience they have.

“Kotoko has a new team but I know with the kind of experience they have, they can go far in the CAF Champions League”.

Both matches will be played on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
