Herve Renard demands $180K monthly wage for vacantSuper Eagles coaching job
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) faces a significant financial challenge in their efforts to hire Herve Renard as the next coach of the Super Eagles, as the French coach has requested a monthly salary of $180,000 (approximately N253 million).
A senior official commented, "Yes, the NFF has approached Renard for the Super Eagles job, but his salary demand of $180,000 per month, nearly 300 million Naira, is a major obstacle.
This would be the highest salary ever paid to a coach, and the NFF simply cannot afford it. This may well be a wild goose chase."
In addition to Nigeria, Renard has reportedly received a $1.9 million offer from Egypt and is also being considered for the role of head coach of the United States national team.
Renard, 54, has an impressive track record, having won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with both Zambia and Côte d'Ivoire.
It is worth noting that the previous foreign coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, agreed to a substantial pay cut to extend his contract until the delayed AFCON in Côte d'Ivoire.
Peseiro initially earned $70,000 per month, which was later reduced to $50,000, and even then, he was owed a salary for up to 13 months at a time.
