FC Samartex 1996's head coach, Nurudeen Amadu, is urging the technical team of the Black Stars to strike a balance between foreign-based and homegrown talents.

He contends that there's an overreliance on foreign players, neglecting the abundant talent within the Ghana Premier League.

Amadu pointed out the lack of opportunities for local players to showcase their skills at the national level, expressing concern over the oversight of many talented individuals within the domestic league by national selectors.

Notably, he highlighted Razak Simpson of Nations FC and Alhassan Mankuyeli of RTU as prime examples of players deserving of consideration for the Black Stars.

While acknowledging the discretion of the national team management in player selection, Amadu lamented the limited chances given to local talents within the Black Stars squad.

He stressed the need for meaningful playing time for these players, citing the successful integration of local talents alongside foreign-based players in teams like Madagascar.

Although recognizing the autonomy of the national team handlers in their selection process, Amadu emphasized the importance of considering local players to boost their confidence and performance.

He suggested that sometimes foreign-based players may not deliver as expected, warranting a closer look at the talent pool within Ghana.

“The national team handlers know what they are after, and you cannot force them to take a player but what I want to say is that not only our (Samartex) players but they must look at some local players to encourage them because sometimes the foreign ones who come don’t perform well," Amadu told Graphic Sports.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are gearing up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June, prompting discussions around squad selection and the inclusion of domestic talents.
