Legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has shed light on his longstanding legal disputes with Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan, revealing details of their contentious history.

Ampaw, known for his involvement in high-profile cases, has clashed with Gyan on multiple occasions, notably over allegations concerning the alleged rape of Sarah Kwablah in 2015.

Sarah Kwablah, a former University of Ghana student, accused Asamoah Gyan of rape and sodomy, sparking a legal battle that Ampaw pursued as lead counsel for journalist Osarfo Anthony in a malicious prosecution lawsuit.

These legal challenges persisted for six years before being resolved by the courts.

Ampaw clarified that his involvement in Gyan's cases stemmed not from personal animosity but from a desire to prove himself as a capable lawyer, especially after Gyan dismissed him as a mere "social media lawyer."

"I don’t have any personal issue with Asamoah Gyan," Ampaw stated.

"I just want to prove him wrong because he dared me. He was discrediting me, claiming I was just a social media lawyer and not among the top lawyers in Ghana.

"So I wanted to show him that I am indeed one of the top lawyers in the country," Maurice Ampaw shared during an appearance on The Delay Show in July 2024.
