Black Starlets coach, Laryea Kingston, has described his team’s defeat against Russia at the 2024 UEFA U16 Invitational Tournament as shocking.

The Black Starlets participated in the tournament for the second time in Russia after also doing so last year in Serbia.

The Ghana U17 male national team lost their opening game against Russia by a 3-1 score line before winning the following two games with 5-1 score lines.

Speaking on the team’s experience at the tournament, the former Ghana international described the defeat as shocking but added that learning from that helped them win their next two games.

“We had our first loss since the Technical team took over. For us, it was very shocking for us.

“But for me, I think our next game against Serbia, they learned from their mistakes and then they came out playing very well.

“Even against Russia, the team played very well.”

The Black Starlets are now back in Ghana and will be kicking of their WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations campaign here in Accra against Cote d’Ivoire next Wednesday.

They will then wrap up their group games against Benin six days later.
