Former GFA Vice President Fred Pappoe has fondly remembered the late CAF President Issa Hayatou, who passed away on August 8, 2024, at the age of 78.

In an interview with Peace FM, monitored by Footballghana.com, Pappoe described Hayatou as "a friend of Ghana football." He recalled Hayatou's support during Ghana's bid to host the CAN 2008, stating, "Issa was a very helpful person. Ghana football was very dear to him."

Hayatou's remains arrived in Cameroon today, where he will be laid to rest. A special reception and prayer service were held at Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport, with a large crowd of mourners, including notable figures such as current CAF boss Patrice Motsepe, Hayatou’s successor Ahmad Ahmad, his close friend Constant Omari, and Samuel Eto’o, the current president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

Pappoe's sentiments echoed the respect and admiration many in the football community hold for Hayatou, who led CAF from 1988 to 2017.
