Kurt Okraku opens up on why Kwesi Appiah, other national team handlers have been laid off
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt E.S Okraku has given an explanation to the rationale behind the dissolving of all technical teams of the various national teams.
The country’s football governing body through a press release last week announced that they are disbanding all national team technical teams. That ultimately meant the Black Stars head coach James Kwesi Appiah has been relieved of his duties after the expiration of his contract.
According to Kurt Okraku, the move became necessary because the male and female national teams have not been competitive enough in the past years.
In an exclusive interview with Joy FM, the GFA boss shared, “We have not been as competitive as we want to be in all our national levels. We need to find ways to be competitive, bring the love back and bring the teams back into the finals and in the end, win trophies. This is what the council also aims to achieve that is why this was done”.
Besides Coach Kwesi Appiah who has been affected by the decision, the likes of Black Queens coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, Black Meteors coach Ibrahim Tanko, Black Satellites coach Yaw Preko, Black Maidens coach Evans Adotey, and Black Princesses coach Yusif Basigi have all been laid off.
