Ghanaian international Kwabena Owusu has opened up on why he decided to join Azerbaijani side Qarabag from Spanish La Liga side Leganes.

According to the 22-year-old forward, the dream of playing in the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League was key for him in choosing his new club.

“I am happy to come to Qarabag. I wanted to play in a club that represented both the Champions League and the Europa League”, the striker said as quoted by Qarabag’s website.

Kwabena Owusu added, “I hope everything will be good for me. I understand that I have come to Azerbaijan for six consecutive championships and my fans are expecting more goals from me. I will do my best”

He continued, “When I received an offer from "Karabakh" I never knew it. I knew that he played in the Champions League two years ago. It was my dream to play in such a club and I was very happy when the offer came.

“I'm a young footballer and this offer is a great opportunity for me. I don't say anything about my personal goal, I think the best is to show it on the pitch. I know the fans are thinking now how I am a footballer. I hope I love them with my game”.

Owusu has signed a three and a half year contract with the Azerbaijani side expected to expire in 2022.
