Lothar Matthäus reveals he was excited when Accra Lions defeated ‘best team’ Aduana Stars

Accra Lions new partner, Lothar Matthäus says he was excited when his side defeated Aduana Stars in the Ghana Premier League last Saturday.

Aduana’s title ambition was dealt a huge blow after they were hammered 3-0 by Accra Lions on Saturday.

Lions broke the deadlock on 29 minutes through Apiiga's deflected free kick which found the back of the net.

After recess, Aduana pushed for the equalizer but with 15 minutes to full time, Evans Botchway doubled Lions’ lead. Six minutes later, Apiiga’s cross was met by Bassit who headed home the third goal for the hosts.

The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan star, who was unveiled as the new shareholder of the Ghana Premier League club on Tuesday expressed his joy after the emphatic win.

“I was excited to see Accra Lions beat the best team (Aduana) in Ghana on Saturday. This is the level of competition I want to see” he said.

Matthäus capped 150 times for Germany and won the Ballon D'or and FIFA World Player of the Year Award in 1990 while plying trade at Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan.

He played an instrumental role in West Germany's 1990 FIFA World Cup triumph.

The former Germany international is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, and was renowned for his perceptive passing, positional sense, well-timed tackling, as well as powerful shooting.

During his playing, the 62-year-old had stints with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan other top clubs.
