Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has expressed readiness to shine for England at the Euro 2024 Championship.

The Three Lions takes on Slovakia in the round 16 of UEFA’s elite competition in Germany on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking ahead of the game, the 19-year-old says he is ready to seize the opportunity and shine on the bid stage for England.

“Yes, probably,” Mainoo told ITV Sport, asked if the game is the biggest of his career. “Do I relish it? Yes, that is what you play football for, the big occasions. You don’t win anything big unless you play in the big occasions.

“I feel I want to be a great player and great players are made in those big occasions so I have to do my best whenever they come about.

“Whenever I get a chance to play I try and give it 100 per cent every time, that is what my dad always said to me, my parents always said to grab a chance with both hands. I have to do my best whenever they come about."

Meanwhile, Mainoo has been handed a starting role in England’s set up to face Slovakia this afternoon.

The midfielder, who enjoyed an amazing season with Manchester United has been struggling for playing in the ongoing tournament in Germany.

The talented midfielder made a brief appearance in their first game against Serbia, coming off the bench for the final five minutes. He then missed the second group game against Denmark before making second half appearance in their last group game with Slovenia.

The 19-year-old turned heads with an impressive 45-minute showing against Slovenia, after replacing Conor Gallagher in the heart of England's midfield.

Following an outstanding display against Slovenia, coach Gareth Southgate has entrusted the Ghanaian midfielder to start in midfielder against Slovakia in the crunch round 16 on Sunday afternoon.

This is the English-born Ghanaian first start in major tournament and he is expected to play a huge role for the Three Lions who are keen to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Mainoo received a huge backing from some England legends including Paul Scholes as they demanded for starting role for the young midfielder.
