My players go to their phones first after each game because of betting – New Edubiase Owner

New Edubiase United owner Abdul Salam Yakubu has revealed that his players immediately check their phones after each game to see if their bets have won.

The issue of gambling in the local football scene has become a topic of discussion, with McDan citing it as a factor stifling the progress of football in Ghana. He mentioned that match-fixing contributed to the relegation of Great Olympics.

Heart of Lions scored a controversial penalty in stoppage time to draw 2-2 against Berekum Chelsea and avoid relegation. Hearts of Oak also came from behind to beat Bechem United 3-2 and secure their safety.

“I spoke with some of my player and all of them engage in betting. When they are on the field during matches, they have divided attention,” Salam Yakubu told Asempa FM.

“When they finish a game and go into the dressing room, the first thing is that each player goes to their phones to check if the bets they have staked whether they’ve won or not.

“I spoke with the management and technical team and they told me this player can win 15,000 Ghana cedis and another 20,000 Ghana cedis.

“I spoke with my players to concentrate on the games and stop betting. I told them betting can kill their talents because of divided attention.”
