My staff stopped me from changing the system against Cote d’Ivoire – Laryea Kingston

Black Starlets head coach Laryea Kingston has credited his head coach for their intervention when he wanted to change the system when things were not going well against Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday.

Kingston revealed he wanted to change the formation when things were not going well but they eventually emerged 5-1 winners in their 2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations with the help of his staff.

Speaking after the flying opening day win, he said, “At a point in time in the game, I wanted to change to a 3-4-3 system because we started with a 4-3-3 one but when I spoke with my technical team, they told me to stick to our original plan because it was working."

Joseph Narbi bagged a brace to give the Starlets a 2-0 first half lead.  Godfred Sarpong made it three for Ghana just after the break before Côte d’Ivoire pulled one back.

However, Harve Gbafa restored the Starlets’ three goal lead with 15 minutes to go before Mark Kagawa Mensah sealed the game in stoppage time.

The Black Starlets will finish their group games on Tuesday, May 21 against Benin.
