Sadio Mane has gotten off to a brilliant start at Liverpool, and is thriving under Jurgen Klopp. However, the Senegalese attacker credits another German with his fine form.

Mane was brought to Liverpool from Southampton during the summer for £34m, signing a five-year deal with the Merseyside club.

He has scored three goals and dished out three assists in his first seven games, and already looks like the Reds' best player.

He puts it all down to Roger Schmidt, the manager who signed him for Red Bulls Salzburg back in 2012.

He's at Bayer Leverkusen now, Mane said via theLiverpool Echo.

He was a big influence on my career thanks to the way he believed in me and helped me so much.

I was still young when I went to Salzburg and working under him really helped me to grow up and grow up as a player. I learned about tactics and different ways to play the game.

Mane helped Salzburg to a domestic double in his second season at the club, scoring 23 goals along the way. In total, he scored 45 goals in 87 outings for the club.

The player also revealed that he models his game after Brazil legend Ronaldinho, and has even tried to copy the former player's smile.

"Some people say I don't smile enough," he said toLiverpool's official website.

"I think that's wrong. I'm usually smiling and having a laugh in training because I enjoy football.

"Ronaldinho always did that and I've always tried to copy him. I think footballers have plenty of reasons to smile. We have a great job that everybody would like to have."
