Spanish-Ghanaian winger Nico Williams has expressed his admiration for Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan, revealing that he grew up idolizing the former Black Stars captain.

The Athletic Bilbao star shared in an interview with 3 Sports during his visit to Ghana that Gyan's goal-scoring prowess inspired him as a young boy. "When I was young or little, at six years old, I liked Asamoah Gyan. He is our best striker. He scored a lot of goals. I loved Asamoah Gyan," Williams Jr. recalled.

Asamoah Gyan remains Ghana's all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 matches and holds the record for the most goals scored by an African player at the World Cup. Gyan retired from football last year at the age of 38.

Nico Williams, who won the Euro 2024 with Spain and the Copa del Rey with Athletic Bilbao, has been making headlines for his performances. The 22-year-old winger is currently linked with a potential move to FC Barcelona this summer.
