Norwich City Confirm Signing of Northern Ireland Goalkeeper Michael McGovern

Norwich City have on Tuesdayannounced that they have signed Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Michael McGovern on a free transfer, according to theirofficial site.

The 32-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Carrow Road, having left Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical earlier this summer.

The move will see McGovern link up with his former manager at Hamilton Alex Neil. The two worked together at the Scottish side in 2014 before Neil took the manager's seat at Norwich.

McGovern said upon his arrival, "Having worked with the gaffer before, that was a big pull for me.

"I had some interest from elsewhere but I'm really looking forward to working with him again now at Norwich. It's nice to join a club where I'll have some familiar faces around me.

"I'm aiming to get into the team but I know I'm up against some top-class goalkeepers. It's going to be intense competition, although it's a challenge I'll relish.

"I want to play but also I want to help the younger players coming through as much as I can. That's something I've looked to do at my previous clubs, and I'll look to lend my experience wherever possible."

McGovern was very impressive during his time in the Northern Ireland squad for the European Championships in France, with notable performances against Germany and Ukraine, helping his side reach the last-16 of the tournament where they were beaten 1-0 by Wales.

Alex Neil was pleased with the signing of his former player saying, "Michael is a player that I've worked with before, so I know all about his qualities and his character.

"He's a fantastic professional, and he showed he's capable of playing at the top level with his performances for Northern Ireland at the Euros. He will come in and offer great competition to our current goalkeepers."
