Preseason the most important part of the season – Mohammed Kudus

Published on: 19 July 2024

Ghana attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus has described preseason as the most important part of the season as West Ham United gear up for the 2024/25 season.

The 23-year-old is already with the club as they undertake double training sessions at altitude in the Austrian town of Kitzbühel.

The Hammers kicked-off Lopetegui’s tenure in charge with a 2-2 pre-season draw with Hungarian champions Ferencváros on Monday afternoon, where Kudus got a valuable first 45 minutes of the campaign under his belt.

"This is the difficult part of the season, but also the most important one because the preparation is important," Kudus told West Ham United’s media team.

"We had a good camp in Austria, the sun was out and we trained well together as a team. We’ve got some new players, but we have all connected well and have made them feel at home, just like everyone did when I got here last season. Pre-season has been smooth so far, and I’m enjoying it.”

The Right to Dream Academy graduate proved indispensable for the Hammers last season, featuring in 48 matches across all competitions. His impressive tally of 18 goals and seven assists underscored his pivotal role in the squad.

Kudus, crowned Europe’s top dribbler for the 2023/24 season, secured further acclaim by clinching West Ham’s Goal of the Season accolade.

His breathtaking 70-yard solo effort against SC Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League round of 16 captured the imagination of fans worldwide.

Not content with just memorable strikes, the former Ajax star culminated his stellar season with a spectacular overhead kick goal against Manchester City, cementing his status as a true game-changer.
