Spanish giants Real Madrid have made signing a right defender their top priority, and they have set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong, according to reports in Spain.

The La Liga side is reportedly prepared to pay the player's €40m release clause to secure his services.

Frimpong, a former Manchester City youngster, has been instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen's successful Bundesliga campaign this season. The 23-year-old Dutch international, who spent two seasons with Celtic, winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup, joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2021.

Since then, Frimpong has been in exceptional form, contributing 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for the German champions. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with several top European clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United, and Arsenal, reportedly interested in his services.

However, Real Madrid seems to be leading the race for the talented defender, who is contracted with Bayer Leverkusen until 2028.
