The Black Starlets of Ghana, the only African team invited to participate in the prestigious UEFA International Tournament, suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Russian U-16 team in their opening match held in Zenit, Russia on Wednesday.

The host team began the game with a strong midfield presence, effortlessly completing passes while the visiting team struggled to maintain control. The Russian team's dominance was quickly established when midfielder Vadim Shilov scored in the 4th minute at the Zenit Stadium in Volgograd.

The host team continued to assert their superiority with forward Daniil Kiselev converting a penalty in the 31st minute to extend their lead. Defender Zakhar Chushkin further widened the gap just three minutes later, bringing the score to a commanding 3-0.

After the break, the Ghanaian team returned with renewed vigor. Their efforts paid off in the 65th minute when Ofori scored a consolation goal for the Black Starlets.

Coach Laryea Kingston and his Ghanaian squad are looking to use this tournament as a platform to evaluate their readiness for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament, which is set to begin in Accra next month.
